TAMPA, Fla. – Orlando City B midfielder Rafael Santos has earned the USL League One Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 11 of the league’s inaugural season, earning the young Brazilian his second consecutive weekly award as his perfectly-placed finish against Forward Madison FC last Friday night took top spot in the weekly online poll.
One of the players at the center of OCB’s uptick in form during the past month, Santos opened the scoring against Madison last Friday night as he picked up possession just to the left of the penalty area midway through the first half. Santos moved into the vacant space and hit a curling shot that picked out the top-right corner of the net that left FMFC goalkeeper Bryan Sylvestre with little chance to save.
Santos’ goal earned 54 percent of the poll conducted online at USLLeagueOne.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Forward Madison FC’s Brian Bement finished second on 40 percent for his goal in the same contest, a fine individual effort that saw him clip home a finish past the advancing goalkeeper to find the net, while Toronto FC II’s Jordan Perruzza took third for his finish against Lansing Ignite FC that saw him shake a defender in the left side of the penalty area and then rifle home a near-post shot.
