HAGÅTÑA, Guam – Greenville Triumph SC goalkeeper Dallas Jaye and the Guam National Team advanced to the Second Round of the Asian Football Conference’s 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying as the Matao swept to a 5-0 victory against Bhutan at the Guam National Football Stadium.

Needing to overturn a one-goal deficit from last Friday’s first leg in the First Round, Guam got back on level terms on aggregate in the 23rd minute when Isiah Lagutang sent home a low finish to the right corner of the net. Matao midfielder Jason Cunliffe then scored the first of his three tallies on the afternoon four minutes later to put the hosts on top before current Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC forward Shane Malcolm added a third six minutes into the second half.

Cunliffe wrapped up his hat trick with goals in the 82nd minute and stoppage time to seal the win for Guam, which also featured Houston Dynamo defender AJ DeLaGarza in its starting lineup.

The Matao will now be drawn in one of eight groups of five countries that will play a round-robin group stage that kicks off this September. The draw for the group stage will be held on July 17 and should see Guam paired with one of the AFC’s regional powers with Japan, South Korea, Australia and Iran all entering qualifying at this stage.
