TAMPA, Fla. – Orlando City B midfielder Rafael Santos has earned the USL League One Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 10 of the league’s inaugural season as his outstanding free kick in OCB’s 2-2 draw against FC Tucson at the Kino Sports Complex last Friday night took top spot in the weekly online poll.
The goal helped continued OCB’s good run of form to close out May as it moved out of last place in the league standings while producing some spectacular finishes along the way. Set up 30 yards from goal just to the left of center against Tucson, Santos placed his curling effort perfectly to the top-left corner just out of the reach of goalkeeper Philip Ejimadu to put OCB ahead just before halftime.
Santos’ goal earned 59 percent of the poll conducted online at USLLeagueOne.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Toronto FC II’s Terique Mohammed finished second on 37 percent for his sharp finish after a clever flicked pass by Jacob Shaffelburg allowed him to notch a late winner against North Texas SC, while FC Tucson’s Jose Terron finished third for his powerful header in the same game as Santos’ strike last Friday night.
