Save against Toronto FC II earns shot-stopper third weekly award of the season

TAMPA, Fla. – FC Tucson goalkeeper Philip Ejimadu has claimed the USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 9 of the league’s inaugural season as his tremendous one-on-one save against Toronto FC II last Friday evening bagged his third weekly award of the campaign.

With his side trailing by a goal in stoppage time, Ejimadu came out quickly to challenge Toronto FC II’s Jacob Shaffelburg, who got in behind the Tucson defense looking for an insurance goal. On loan from Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, Ejimadu held his ground well and made a big save with his right leg to deny the opportunity.

Ejimadu’s save earned 38 percent of the poll conducted online at USLLeagueOne.com that concluded on Friday morning, narrowly defeating Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s Alex Mangels, who finished on 34 percent for his diving save that denied Greenville Triumph SC’s Xavier Gomez’s dipping shot to the left corner of the net. Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald finished third on 28 percent for a right-handed save that kept out Orlando City B’s Thiago Souza in a one-on-one chance.
