Tucson, Orlando battle to 2-2 draw

fc tucson (2) VS orlando city b (2)

TUCSON, Ariz. -- FC Tucson and Orlando City B played to a 2-2 draw Friday night at Kino Sports Complex. After a slow start, the match came to life towards the end of the first half. Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu did well to break up an Orlando possession in midfield and spring Devin Vega on a counter attack. Vega played a cutting pass leading Jordan Jones in on goal, but Jones’ strike hit the bottom of the crossbar and stayed out. Minutes later, OCB also rang a shot off the bar as Rafael Andrade Santos ripped a shot from 25-yards out that was a few inches too high. Santos’ next strike would be inch-perfect. The 24-year old curled a free kick over the wall and past Tucson goalkeeper Philip Ejimadu to give Orlando the lead heading into the halftime break. The crossbar denied Tucson again just after halftime as an Orlando defender nearly turned a Zach Wright cross into his own net, but was saved by the bar. The hosts would finally beat the crossbar in the 58th minute when Wheeler-Omiunu rose above Orlando goalkeeper Juliano Chade to head a corner kick in and equalize. Tucson pulled themselves in front in the 73rd minute through José Terrón’s well-placed flicked header. The lead would be short-lived as Christopher Osei-Wusu showed his pace to pounce on a loose ball inside the penalty area and smash a shot into the roof of the net to level the score minutes after Terrón’s header. Kody Wakasa appeared to score the game-winner for Tucson in the 87th minute, but the goal was called back for offside and the match ended in a draw. The point is Orlando’s first on the road this season and pulls them out of last place in the league standings for the first time in 2019. The draw momentarily moves Tucson into fourth place ahead of tomorrow’s slate of matches.
