Quick starts help Orlando, North Texas earn wins at home

Orlando continued to show improvement in the attacking third, putting three past Richmond; North Texas continued its unbeaten start to the 2019 season, defeating Madison at home. 

Orlando city b (3) vs RICHMOND KICKERS (2) 

MONTVERDE, Fla - Orlando City B earned its second consecutive win Wednesday night, defeating the Richmond Kickers, 3-2, at Montverde Academy. Orlando started well and opened the scoring in the fourth minute from a set piece. Serginho rolled a pass into Moises Tablante at the top of the penalty area from the dead ball situation. Tablante took a touch to create space and smashed a left-footed shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. After playing provider on the first goal, Serginho got himself on the scoresheet with a great strike from distance in the 27th minute to double Orlando’s lead. Eli Lockeby pulled a goal back for the visitors ten minutes before the halftime break, latching onto a long ball over the top and beating goalkeeper Juliano Chade for his first goal of the season. Richmond looked more dangerous following halftime adjustments and drew themselves level in the 80th minute. Joe Gallardo did well to create space in midfield and find Matthew Bolduc on the right wing. Bolduc delivered a low driven cross, inviting Josh Hughes to run onto it and volley it home. Thiago Souza converted a penalty in the 86th minute to help Orlando to its second win of the season.

Souza converted a penalty in a high pressure situation to seal three points for his side. The midfielder also completed 81% of his passes and won 12 of 18 duels.

NORTH TEXAS SC (3) VS Forward madison fc (1)

FRISCO, Texas - Two goals in the first seven minutes of the match helped North Texas SC take down Forward Madison FC, 3-1, Wednesday night at Toyota Stadium. North Texas opened the scoring in the third minute after Alfusainey Jatta played a long ball from his center back position towards Ricardo Pepi. Pepi rose up well and flicked a header that beat the Madison defenders and sprang Ronaldo Damus free in behind. Damus made no mistake, calmly tucking the ball in past Brian Sylvestre to make it 1-0 early. North Texas doubled its lead minutes later after Arturo Rodriguez found space down the left flank. With time to deliver a cross, Rodriguez found his younger brother David Rodriguez near the penalty spot, setting him up for his first professional goal. Madison halved the deficit in the 15th minute through Don Smart. Jiro Bariga Toyama beat his defender on the left flank a delivered a deflected cross to the back post which Smart did well to finish from a tight angle. Jorge Almaguer added an insurance goal for North Texas in the 70th minute, taking space as Madison’s backs dropped off of him before firing a low shot past Sylvestre at the near post. With the win, North Texas becomes the first club to reach the six win mark this season and continues its unbeaten start through the first seven matches.

Rodriguez took his chance well when it came his way and scored the eventual game winner to nab his first professional goal. The midfielder also completed 84% of his passes and had four recoveries.
