Individual run and finish against Madison took top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Toronto FC II midfielder Jacob Shaffelburg has claimed the USL League One Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 6 of the league’s inaugural season after his clever individual run and finish against Forward Madison FC last Saturday night took top spot in the weekly online poll.

A native of Nova Scotia, Shaffelburg joined the professional ranks this past offseason with TFC II after previously competing for the Toronto FC Academy. His first League One goal arrived late in the first half against FMFC as he juked past a pair of defenders into the right side of the penalty area and then fired home a low finish at the near post to level the score for the visitors.

Shaffelburg’s goal earned 60 percent of the poll conducted online at USLLeagueOne.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. The Richmond Kickers’ Daniel Jackson finished second on 31 percent for his stoppage-time blast from distance against Lansing Ignite FC that earned the hosts a 2-2 draw at City Stadium last Saturday, while Forward Madison FC’s Paulo Jr. took third for his headed finish of Don Smart’s deep cross that served as the first goal for the Flamingos at their home venue of Breese Stevens Field.
