Tucson goalkeeper’s standout save against Tormenta FC earned top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – FC Tucson goalkeeper Philip Ejimadu has claimed the USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 5 of the 2019 season as his diving save against South Georgia Tormenta last Friday night at the Kino Sports Complex took top spot in the online poll that concluded on Friday lunchtime.

A former member of the United States U-20 National Team, Ejimadu signed with Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC this offseason and subsequently joined FC Tucson on loan for its inaugural professional season. The 19-year-old showed off his standout ability against Tormenta FC with a full-stretch save that kept out a curling effort by Marco Micaletto that was headed to the right corner of the net.

Ejimadu’s save earned 70 percent of the poll conducted online at USLLeagueOne.com that concluded on Friday morning. South Georgia Tormenta FC’s Pablo Jara finished second with 29 percent for his diving save late in the same contest last Friday night, while Toronto FC II’s Caleb Patterson-Sewell finished third for his reaction save against Lansing Ignite FC.
