FC TUCSON (1) VS TORONTO FC II (1)

TUCSON, Ariz. – FC Tucson and Toronto FC II split the points in a match that both teams probably felt they could have won. The match was open from the onset, with both sides pushing hard for an opening goal. The goalkeepers were called into action early and often and both were up to the task for most of the match. After over an hour of probing, the goals finally came, minutes apart. Tucson struck first when Eti Tavares poked the ball free from a Toronto defender. The loose ball fell to Roy Abergil who drove at the TFC II backs before slotting Jamael Cox through. Cox made no mistake, tucking the ball under the goalkeeper to give the home side the lead. Toronto would equalize six minutes later through Jordan Hamilton. Griffin Dorsey, who hit the post earlier in the half, made his way to the end line and chipped a cross to the back post in the direction of Hamilton. The Toronto FC loanee rose above everybody and nodded the ball home to help his side earn a point on the road.

Griffin Dorsey, Toronto FC II – Dorsey was impressive throughout the match and was unlucky not to find the back of the net. In addition to his assist on the game-tying goal, Dorsey created two chances and completed over 80% of his passes.

NORTH TEXAS SC (1) VS FORWARD MADISON FC (0)

FRISCO, TX. – Ricardo Pepi’s 95th minute penalty lifted North Texas SC to a 1-0 victory over Forward Madison FC at Toyota Stadium Saturday night. North Texas controlled the majority of the match and created the better chances throughout the night, but couldn’t find a breakthrough until the waning moments of the match. Brandon Servania received a pass right outside the 6-yard box and took a touch around his defender, forcing a lunging tackle and earning the penalty. Pepi calmly tucked the penalty into the bottom right corner of Ryan Coulter’s goal to grab all three points for his side.

Ricardo Pepi, North Texas – Pepi once again shined throughout the night, always looking dangerous with the ball at his feet. To step up and hit a penalty as well as he did with three points on the line speaks volumes.

GREENVILLE TRIUMPH SC (1) VS CHATTANOOGA RED WOLVES SC (0)

GREENVILLE, SC. – Jake Keegan scored his second goal in as many games to give Greenville Triumph SC a 1-0 win over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC at Legacy Early College. The hosts looked to have pushed themselves in front early on in the match as Xavier Gomez found the back of the net after a neat exchange sprung him free inside the penalty area, but the referee blew for offside and waved the goal off.  Greenville would have to wait until the 74th minute, but the break through would eventually come. Gomez created the chance, skipping past his defender and dribbling to the end line before finding Keegan with a low cross. Keegan beat his defender to the ball and tucked it away for his second goal of the season. The win is Greenville’s second in a row, with both coming at home; while the loss drops Chattanooga to 1-2-0 on the season.

LANSING IGNITE FC (3) VS RICHMOND KICKERS (1)

LANSING, Mich. – Lansing Ignite FC earned a win in its home opener, upending the Richmond Kickers for the second time in three weeks. The Kickers were reduced to 10 men when captain Maxi Rodriguez was shown a second yellow card in the 35th minute. Up a man, the Ignite edged themselves in front just after the halftime break through Nick Moon. The midfielder cut in from the left flank before firing a shot from just outside the penalty area that found the top corner. Alex Bruce doubled his side’s lead minutes later, finishing a tap in after impressive work by Rhys Williams to get to the end line and create space for the cross. Richmond showed brief signs of life midway through the second half as Dennis Chin pulled a goal back, but Lansing answered immediately and regained the two-goal lead.  Lansing improves to 2-1-0 on the season, while Richmond falls to 0-2-1 with both losses coming at the hands of the Ignite.
