TAMPA, Fla. – South Georgia Tormenta FC goalkeeper Pablo Jara has earned the USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 1 of the 2019 season as his late reflex save against Greenville Triumph SC at Erk Russell Park took top spot in the online poll that concluded on Friday lunchtime.
With Tormenta FC holding onto a one-goal lead in the closing stages of League One’s inaugural contest, Jara produced a remarkable low save with his feet to keep out a potential equalizer by Greenville’s Paul Clowes. His stop preserved victory for Tormenta FC, which rewarded a sellout crowd with the first win in League One’s history.
Jara’s save earned 63 percent of the poll conducted online at USLLeagueOne.com that concluded on Friday morning. Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s Alex Mangels finished second on 28 percent for his parried save to keep out an effort by North Texas SC’s Ricardo Pepi, while North Texas’ Jimmy Maurer took third as he tracked a long-range effort by Chattanooga’s Sito Seoane to produce a fine stop.
