 As part of a year-round effort to tell stories at the intersection of soccer and Black culture, the United Soccer League and the USL Black Players Alliance will release a series of initiatives celebrating Black History Month. Working directly with the USLBPA, the league will publish a series of first-person stories written by members of the USL Black community, including historical imagery, and will support and amplify an original video series currently in production by the Alliance. 
  • Chenier Durand II

    River City 93 Podcast Co-Host Chenier Durand II shares the story of how soccer has always been an important part of his life.
  • Rick Taylor

    Phoenix Rising FC Rick Taylor discusses what Black History Month means to him. As a pioneer of soccer in his family, Rick is honed in on advancing the game in Phoenix and the surrounding region and looks forward to continuing to represent his team in the stands and in the community with a focus on total inclusion.
  • Denzel Okinedo

    Birmingham Legion FC supporter Denzel Okinedo pinpoints the influence of former France international and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the startinig point of his soccer fandom. Okinedo recalls Henry's dealings with racism and social injustice throughout his career, and how Henry's path has inspired him to love the game through the eyes of others.
  • Elliot Barr

    Richmond Kickers fan and River City 93 podcast co-host Elliot Barr recounts how his podcast grew from focusing on the Kickers to fostering discussions on soccer's importance to Black culture, and offered a platform for Black players to speak on issues that affect them.
  • Cameron Coley

    OKC Energy FC supporter Cameron Coley recounts how he fell in love with The Beautiful Game, his excitement in being a part of the Energy FC community and the opportunity at hand to support social justice initiatives through his club, his city and around the league.
  • Herman Quinn Jr.

    Louisville City FC fan and Vice President of The Coopers, Herman Quinn Jr. touches on the platform and effect of soccer on the Louisville community before discussing the special story and leadership of LouCity midfielder George Davis IV and the impact Davis IV has had on his life.
  • Sebastian Dancler

    Indy Eleven fan Sebastian Dancler describes the moment he fell in love with The Beautiful Game. Inspired by Eleven supporters’ club The Brickyard Battalion, the club’s and players' stance on social justice issues and more, Dancler is proud to support Indiana’s Team.

In addition to supporting and amplifying the USLBPA’s original Black History Month content, the league will also hand over its platforms to Alliance members to publish a weekly, written first-person series on race, family, soccer, and culture.
